We are very fortunate to have Mike Webb in our Wikus family and our thankful for his many years of service on our technical team.
In making the decision to buy Wikus blades, our customers receive the added value of technical support, offered by our extremely knowledgeable staff of technicians in the fi eld. In this issue,
we would like to take the opportunity to introduce one of those technicians in our employee spotlight article.
One of Wikus Saw’s greatest assets is the team we have and the extensive knowledge they possess in the band sawing industry. Mike Webb, a service technician for Wikus Saw for 15 years, is a wealth of knowledge and an integral part of the Wikus team.
In general our service techs provide basic service for existing customers band saw machines, assist in running tests of our blades at new accounts and are available to answer questions and resolve issues customers may have in their cutting applications. But if you ask Mike Webb, he looks at his role in a much different way, which is what makes Mike so valuable to our team.
When Mike started with Wikus Saw 15 years ago, he remembers how fortunate he was to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Mike Masters and Frank Gresens. Now Mike is that mentor to the new people on our team, imparting his knowledge to them. And that is how Mike sees his role, as a teacher, imparting and transferring knowledge, not only to fellow colleagues but to our customers.
Being a service technician is all about knowledge, gaining it and sharing it. Mike has gathered much knowledge in the years he has worked at Wikus, had experience with many different cutting applications and hundreds of models of band saw machines. Even with 15 years of experience, Mike will tell you, “everyday is different and I still find myself learning new things”
If you ask Mike what he likes most about his role, he will tell you that he takes pride in being able to help people. Whether that be a new saw operator, who has not received a lot of training and taking just a few minutes to answer their questions and make their job a little easier. Perhaps a new Wikus team member, who values that guidance and knowledge transfer, so they can contribute themselves to the team. Or finding a solution for a customer in a specific cutting application, which helps them propel their business forward. As Mike will tell you, “a little help goes a long way, people remember and appreciate that you took the time and helped them. It is that added value that sticks with people”
If you have had the opportunity to work with Mike in the fi eld, then you know he also prides himself on being a straight shooter. Mike’s honesty and integrity allow him to gain the trust of the people he works with and form good working relationships. He approaches all situations with the same goal as our customers and that is to find a solution.
When Mike is not hanging around band saw machines, he enjoys spending time with his family at home. Mike has three sons and one daughter, but his newest love is his 2 year old grandson. Mike can’t get enough time with his grandson, so Mike is making plans to move in order to be closer to his children and grandson.
